Expected Shortfall Regression

Xuming He is the Kotzubei–Beckmann Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Statistics and Data Science at Washington University in St. Louis. He became the department’s inaugural chair in 2023, following his appointment as H.C. Carver Collegiate Professor of Statistics at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on robust statistics, quantile regression, Bayesian methods and inference after model selection, with an emphasis on connections between statistical theory and interdisciplinary data analysis. He served as President of the International Statistical Institute from 2023 to 2025 and is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His academic career also includes positions at the National University of Singapore and the University of Illinois, as well as service as a statistics program director at the US National Science Foundation. He earned his PhD in Statistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.

Factor Informed Double Deep Learning for Average Treatment Effect Estimation

Jianqing Fan holds the Frederick L. Moore ’18 Professorship of Finance at Princeton University, where he is also Professor of Statistics and Machine Learning and of Operations Research and Financial Engineering. His research has made major contributions to high-dimensional statistical inference, nonparametric and semiparametric methods, and financial econometrics. His work on feature screening and covariance estimation has helped shape statistical approaches to large datasets. Fan’s honors include the COPSS Presidents’ Award, the Morningside Gold Medal in Applied Mathematics, the Royal Statistical Society’s Guy Medal in Silver and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He received the IMS Wald Memorial Award and Lectures in 2025. He has served as President of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and of the International Chinese Statistical Association. His research connects statistical methodology with applications in finance, economics, genomics and health, reflecting the breadth of his contributions across statistics, data science and financial research.
